The Jewish and Catholic candles have arrived.

The picture of Rachel’s grandparents has a shiny new frame.

The fabric for the huppah is cut and sewn together.

We made chalkboards for the buffet, bar, and pie menus.

Candleholders and signs for pie!

The paper streamers are all assembled.

And the programs are ready for assembly.

Huppah Update

We found some quarter round molding at Home Depot that were perfect size and perfect price.

For fabric, we’ll be using colorful fabric from MayaWorks, a local nonprofit that helps Mayan women support their families. Our huppah will help bring hope and opportunities to other families!

Chuppah in the Making

Neither of us are very religious, but we are incorporating a few Jewish traditions into the wedding.

One really fun project is building a chuppah, the traditional Jewish wedding canopy! Instead of bridal attendants, we’ve asked our sisters and a couple of close friends to hold the chuppah during the (short) ceremony.

The chuppah itself will consist of four poles and a piece of fabric. The current dilemmas: what kind of poles to use and what fabric?

I dunno what these people used, but I like their style: http://www.flickr.com/photos/the-doctors-epstein/1414296629/

Is this legal?

Sadly, the state of Illinois will not recognize the legal union of the Bakelo household. That leaves a broken home for Moses, Oreo, and Noah. Broken. Home.

If you think marriage should be available to everyone, support a worthy organization that will fight for equality, like the ACLU.
